One day after Equal Pay Day, Senate Republicans filibustered the Paycheck Fairness Act (S. 2199) – preventing this important equal pay legislation from receiving an up-or-down vote. But the fight is not over.
Contact your senators today and let them know how you feel about their votes of the Paycheck Fairness Act. Thank your senators if they supported the bill – and if they voted along party lines against equal pay for women, tell them that we will not rest until the gender wage gap is closed.
Women, on average, still earn only 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. Women of color in particular are hard hit by the gender wage gap. Black women earn just 64 cents for every dollar earned by white men, and Latinas earn only 54 cents. The pay gap costs women about $434,000 over the course of their careers and affects women’s Social Security, retirement, and pensions.
Enough is enough.
Make sure your senators know that you support the Paycheck Fairness Act as an important step to achieving equal pay for women.
