“We can’t wait to see her make history this year, and break yet another barrier.”

(Woodbridge, VA) –The Feminist Majority, a national organization headquartered in Virginia, that advocates for women’s equality, reproductive health, and non-violence, and its Feminist Majority Equality PAC, are proud to endorse Delegate Jennifer Carroll Foy for Governor of Virginia. Carrol Foy, who successfully led in 2020 the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in the Virginia House, has demonstrated her unique abilities to break barriers and fight for equality.

“Jennifer is an exciting and an outstanding candidate who understands the struggles of everyday Virginians because she’s lived them, and has the courage and leadership skills to make progress to enrich their future and their lives. We are especially proud to endorse her in celebration of Women’s History Month because we know Jennifer will make history as the first Black woman to be elected governor of Virginia and, for that matter, the first Black woman to be elected governor in any state in the United States,” said Eleanor Smeal, co-founder and president of the Feminist Majority and its Feminist Majority Equality PAC. “Jennifer has been a champion for women’s rights, civil rights, and equality for all throughout her life. She is dedicated to protecting reproductive rights, passing commonsense gun reform, strengthening environmental protections, defending LGBTQ+ rights, and expanding affordable healthcare. We can’t wait to see her make history this year, and break yet another barrier.”

“I am so honored to receive the endorsement of the Feminist Majority Equality PAC. Ellie has been a groundbreaking leader among feminists and having her support means the world to me,” said Carroll Foy. “From being one of the first women to graduate from VMI, to recently leading the charge to passing the Equal Rights Amendment in Virginia, the fight to achieve gender equality has been a defining force in my life. And while we’ve made such progress in Virginia, we have a long way to go. I know this intimately because I’ve lived the challenges women, and women of color in particular, face in the Commonwealth. As Governor, I’ll fight hard for paid family leave, reproductive freedom and justice, and to raise the wage because change can’t wait.”

As one of the first women to graduate from Virginia Military Institute, Delegate Carroll Foy has spent her career breaking barriers and fighting for gender equality and reproductive freedom. As a Delegate, Carroll Foy fought for the Reproductive Health Protection Act in addition to the ERA ratification in Virginia, paid family leave, and addressing the maternal mortality rate. As Governor, Delegate Carroll Foy has promised to appoint a pro-choice cabinet, ensuring her Administration actively advances policies that support the reproductive freedom of all Virginians.

The Feminist Majority PAC seeks to end the under-representation of women and people of color in elected office and achieve political parity for women. President Eleanor Smeal has led efforts for the economic, political, and social equality and empowerment of women worldwide for over three decades. She has played a leading role in both national and state campaigns to win women’s rights legislation and in a number of landmark state and federal court cases for women’s rights.
