Healthy Families Act
This bill provides for 7 days of paid sick leave for workers and to care for family members. It is anticipated that this bill, which was not voted on in either the Senate or House in the last Congress, will be reintroduced in the current Congress where it will have a better chance of passing. The Obama Administration supports this act. Currently, nearly half of women workers have no paid sick leave. For families in the lowest 25 percent of earners, 79 percent lack paid sick leave. In addition, millions of workers cannot use paid sick leave to care for ill family members. The Feminist Majority favors increasing the number of sick days provided for in the bill from 7 to 10.
