Sharen Neuhardt

Sharen Neuhardt is running for a seat in Congress in Ohio’s newly formed and highly competitive 10th District (which includes Montgomery and Green counties and parts of Fayette County).

Background

Neuhardt was born in Dayton, Ohio, attended Dayton public schools, graduated from Northeastern University, and returned to practice law in Dayton after graduating from Georgetown University Law Center. Neuhardt is recognized as one of the best lawyers in America, and is a partner at the Dayton firm Thompson Hine LLP since 1990. She served on the Board of Trustees of Planned Parenthood of Miami Valley from 1995-2002, and currently serves on the board of Premier Community Health. Premier Community Health provides breast and cervical cancer screenings to underserved women in Dayton.

Position on Key Issues

She is a strong advocate for women's rights, especially women's health. Her campaign priorities are creating jobs, restoring economic security, and protecting and strengthening Ohio families and workers.

Prospects

Neuhardt ran for Congress in 2008 in District 7, a heavily Republican leaning district. Neuhardt is hoping to capitalize on redistricting, as Ohio's new 10th district is very competitive. Ohio has been identified as a state that could overturn the Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, which will make the general election a close and tough race.

Opponent

Neuhardt is running against Republican Mike Turner and Libertarian David Harlow. Neuhardt's main opponent is Turner, who has served as US Representative of Ohio's 3rd District for the past nine years.
