Betty Sutton

Betty Sutton is running for a seat in Congress representing Ohio’s 16th District (Northeast Oltis: Median, Wooster, Strongsville). Sutton is the current incumbent in Ohio’s 13th District. Due to GOP directed re-districting, Sutton must now run in the newly formed 16th District.

Background

A graduate of Kent State University and University of Akron School of Law, Sutton is an attorney who specialized in labor law. Sutton has a long history of public service and legislative experience. In 1993, Sutton was the youngest woman elected to the Ohio House of Representatives and served for 8 years. In 2006, Sutton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Ohio's 13th District, where she currently serves. In her tenure in public service, Sutton is a fierce advocate for women, and has advocated for reproductive choice, LGBT rights, affordable healthcare, and economic security. Position on Key Issues

Sutton is a strong advocate that stands up for women. Sutton fights for women who serve our country, supports fair pay, supports women's right to choose, fairness in the health care system, fought for parity in health coverage, and is an advocate for stronger anti-domestic violence laws.

Prospects

The GOP driven redistricting threatens Sutton's re-election campaign. Although Renacci's approval rating sits close to only 30%, the race is incredibly close. The race is rated a toss-up by the Cook Political Report. Sutton's victory is crucial in regaining a Democratic majority in the House.

Opponent

Congresswoman Sutton is running against Republican incumbent Congressman James Renacci, current representative of District 16, and Libertarian Jeffrey Blevins.
