Take Action

Send a Letter to your Representatives Regarding the Stupak/Pitts Amendment
The House passed the historic Affordable Health Care Act (HR3962) by a narrow margin (220-215) with major gains for women. Women's rights advocates, however, were delivered a major defeat Saturday night by passage of the outrageously restrictive anti-abortion Stupak amendment that bans abortion coverage for women in both the public option and private insurance.

Health Insurance Reform and Women
Millions of women desperately need health insurance reform. Please go to our all New Health Insurance Reform and Women Website and see what women will gain. Affordable Health Choices Acts (HR 3200 and S. 1679) with similar provisions have been approved by 3 House Committees and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. Urge Congress to pass the Affordable Health Choices Act with a Public Health Insurance option.

Help Dr. Carhart and his Embattled Clinic Today
Help keep embattled clinics nationwide, such as Dr. Carhart's clinic, safe and open. Please send half my tax-deductible contribution to Dr. Carhart to help defray extraordinary legal expenses and security cost in the face of Operation Rescue's campaign. The other half will support the Feminist Majority Foundation's efforts to help target clinics nationwide.

Join our Campaign for Afghan Women and Girls
Our campaign for Afghan women and girls needs your help so we can form Action Teams throughout the USA, continue to advocate, educate, and keep the issue before the American public. We need your help now to step up our work on behalf of Afghan women and girls.

Help Empower Afghan Women and Girls!
Congress is currently considering Obama's supplemental funding bill for Afghanistan. Critical funding for programs for women and girls must be included in this bill. Ask your Senators, Representatives, and  President Obama to act now to help Afghan women by including funding in the supplemental spending bill for Afghanistan that will go directly to Afghan women-led non-profit organizations providing programs for Afghan women and girls, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) and the Ministry of Women's Affairs (MOWA).

Take Action Now to Help Afghan Women!
With both houses of Congress in the hands of the Democrats, we have a chance this year to pass the Afghan Women Empowerment Act of 2007! Take a moment now to urge your Senators and Representative to co-sponsor this critical bill for Afghan women and girls.

Stop Child Marriages!
Take action today to stop child marriages! In several countries across the world, including India, Niger, and Uganda, more than half of girls are married before they turn 18. Girls as young as 7 or 8 are forced into marriage, and pressured to give birth before their bodies are ready. These girls face increased risks for domestic violence, maternal mortality, infant mortality, obstetric fistula, and contracting HIV. They are often forced to drop out of school, and lose the chance to gain vital skills that could help them overcome poverty. Join us today to stop the practice of child marriage!

Defend Reproductive Freedom!
Join the signers of the Ms. Petition for Safe, Legal, and Accessible Abortion and Birth Control. Contact your Representative and Senators to tell them that reproductive freedom must be defended. Join us by standing up and speaking truth to power.
